Romney Center for Neurologic Diseases (ARCND) and the CLIMB Study
Biorepository, affiliated with the Department of Neurology at
Brigham and Women's Hospital, are pioneering research in multiple
sclerosis (MS). This Center is a leading institution in bench to
bedside translational research, serving the patients afflicted by
debilitating neurodegenerative diseases in our neuroscience clinics
within the same building. With collaborations across Boston and
spanning around the globe, robust and diverse funding portfolio,
and a wealth of talented coordinators, technicians, fellows, and
scientists, the ARCND provides an inspiring and dynamic working
environment.This position works under the general direction of the
Principal Investigator (PI) and Director of the Translational
Neuroimmunology Research Center (TNRC) and Co-Director of the
Brigham MS Center, Dr. Tanuja Chitnis. The Research Scientist plays
a key role in conducting research projects, obtaining funding,
writing or other recognition. He/she is highly competent,
experienced and/or recognized in their field. He/she may not
necessarily receive independent resources; however, their
contribution is essential to the conceptual/scientific success of
the project. He/she will additionally provide ongoing technical
support to technicians and postdoctoral fellows and laboratory
maintenance and administration.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducts active, complex scientific research projects in
collaboration with PI and laboratory members.
- Makes strong intellectual contributions to scientific
strategies of the group/lab and plays a leadership role by acting
as subject matter expert in field.
- Subject matter expertise in immunology/neuroimmunology.
- Carries out research projects, which involve the execution of
highly, sophisticated techniques including flow cytometry, single
cell RNA sequencing, ATAC-seq, and spatial transcriptomics.
- Exercises judgment in selecting methods and technologies to
obtain results.
- Interprets experiment results in coordination with other
researchers.
- Presents results and prepares data for publications.
- Reports on work in progress at weekly meetings and ad hoc
seminars.
- Contributes to scientific literature and may present results at
institutional and external academic meetings.
- Attends annual national scientific meeting.
- Participation in grant proposal preparation.
- Provides technical support for laboratory technicians and
postdoctoral fellows.
- Administrative maintenance of database records and IRB
documents.
- Monitors laboratory equipment for maintenance.
- All other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS:
- PhD or other terminal doctorate degree (required).
- Advanced degree appropriate to the field of research
(preferred).
- Demonstrated evidence of scientific competency with highly
specialized and developed skills, publications and/or experience -
minimum of five years of progressively more responsible research
experience.
- Prior supervisory experience
(preferred).SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
- Highly skilled with demonstrated broad knowledge of field.
- Evidence of potential for scientific creativity, original
thought.
- Able to exercise independent judgment and leadership. Effective
decision making in appropriate situations.
- Major contributor to publications.
- Must possess a scientific imagination commensurate with the
independent execution of research projects.
- Must have aptitude for methodology and addressing analytical
issues.
- Analytical skills and ability to logically sequence experiments
to maximize research.
- Ability to effectively supervise others.
- Ability to objectively communicate feedback.
- Superior organizational skills.
- Must possess aptitude for budget management.
- High level of computer literacy.SUPERVISORY

hiring, evaluating, and disciplining. Will orient and train new
